Why Detox?

We are exposed to toxins daily, both external and internal toxins.

Externally, we come into contact and pick up toxins, knowingly and unknowingly, from the environment. That is, from the air we breathe, in the food we eat, and also from the water we drink.

Internally, our bodies produce toxins as a by-product of our digestive and many metabolic processes that keep us in a good working state.

If our immunity is strong and our organs of elimination like, skin, kidneys, bladder, lungs and colon, are functioning at optimum levels, our bodies are able to rid itself safely of these toxins. However, for many reasons, some people may fail to eliminate toxins properly.

If toxins are being taken in faster than the body can excrete them, a state of ‘toxicity” may occur. When left unchecked, many natural health professionals see this as an accumulation of toxins which undermine health, weaken organs of the body, and also contribute to a range of diseases such as arthritis and irritable bowel syndrome.

Realistically speaking, many people are exposed and unprotected to a vast array of toxic compounds arising from pesticides, chemicals, inhalants, exhaust fumes, drugs, heavy metals and radiation. It is quite difficult to avoid toxins, especially for city dwellers.

Unless for some specific health reasons, you choose to intentionally live in a bubble. However, instead of becoming fearful or even paranoid of toxins, we can familiarise ourselves and be equipped with knowledge on where these toxins come from, and how to protect ourselves wisely against their potentially harmful effects.

We can embrace our lives effectively and live to be happy and healthy!
